Chairman of the Unions of Southeast Anatolia Exporters (GAIB), Abdulkadir Cikmaz, said Wednesday that the Southeast Anatolia region broke a record in exports in January.
In a statement issued Wednesday, Cikmaz said that exports from the Southeast Anatolia region went up 44.8 percent in January when compared to the same period last year
and reached a figure of 500,272,000 USD.
In January 2010, the Southeast Anatolia region's exports were worth 345,611,000 USD.
70.2 percent of all exports from Southeast Anatolia in January were made from Gaziantep province alone.
Industrial products exported from Southeast Anatolia included machine made carpets, cement products, chemical materials, ready-made garments and fibers.
Agricultural products exported from the region included flour, biscuits, dried apricots, pasta, sugar, and liquid vegetable oil.
57.2 percent of all exports from Southeast Anatolia in January went to Middle Eastern countries while 21.6 percent went to EU countries.
In January, Southeast Anatolia exported products to 134 countries in all corners of the world.
Abdulkadir Cikmaz said that their goal was to make exports worth a total of 7.5 billion USD by the end of 2011.
