Total assets of Turkish banks rose to 932 billion lira in October 2010 as financial analysts expect it to reach 1.5 trillion lira in the next three or four years.

It was 927.4 billion lira in September.

Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency, or BDDK, thinks growth of Turkish banking industry would continue in coming years.

BDDK Chairman Tevfik Bilgin says the size of total assets is likely to exceed 1 trillion lira in the first quarter of 2011.

Banks' profits also rose by 7.6 percent year-on-year to 18.7 billion lira in October 2010, according to unascertained temporary data provided by BDDK last week.

BDDK statistics shows that the number of bankers and branches are on the rise too. Accordingly, banks hired 5,578 new employees in first three quarters and reached a total number of 189,783 bankers. Branch numbers also grew 354 and amounted to 9,935 across Turkey.
