Turk Telekom in Turkey says net profit for Q1 up by 88 pc

Turk Telekom, Turkey's largest fixed line phone operator, said Tuesday its net profit for the first quarter of 2010 rose 88 percent from the same period a year earlier to reach 546 million Turkish lira. (1 USD is equal to 1.49 TL)

In a statement, Turk Telekom said that first quarter consolidated sales rose 3 percent to 2.58 billion TL in the first quarter.

Company's income from mobile operations was also up 22 percent to 647 million TL, Turk Telekom said, adding that the number of ADSL subscribers rose 200,000, leading to a 21 percent rise in income from ADSL services to 601 million TL.

Turk Telekom is the owner of Avea, Turkey's third largest mobile phone operator, and TTnet, country's largest internet service provider.

In 2005, a 55 percent stake in Turk Telekom was sold to Saudi Oger for 6.5 billion USD.
