One of Turkey's leading GSM operators said on Thursday that it would make 1.5 billion USD of investments in 2010.

Turkcell said it was planning to invest some 2.4 billion Turkish liras (TL) (1.5 billion USD) in 2010.

"We have invested 74 million TL (49.3 million USD) in the first quarter of 2010," Turkcell's director general Sureyya Ciliv told a press conference in Istanbul.

Ciliv said 7 million Turkcell subscribers were using mobile internet, and 5.2 million people applied to become 3G subscribers and 2.5 million of them were actual users.

"Mobil data use has risen by 18-folds in a year, and Turkcell's mobile internet revenues were up 70 percent," Ciliv also said.

Turkcell is planning to allocate 650 million USD to Turkcell's infrastructure, 340 million USD to Superonline and 400 million USD to international affiliates in 2010.

Earlier on Thursday, Turkcell posted a consolidated net profit of 417.6 million Turkish liras (TL) (271 billion USD) in the first quarter of 2010, with a 25.8 percent decrease over the same quarter of 2009.

However, Turkcell's revenues were up 7 percent to 2.25 billion TL (1.46 billion USD) in the first quarter of 2010 over the same quarter of 2009, thanks to positive contributions of Turkcell Turkey and Superonline.

Turkcell Turkey's revenues were up 7.6 percent to 2.01 million TL (1.3 million USD), and the monthly average income per subscriber rose to 19.4 TL (12.9 USD) with a 13.5 percent rise in the first quarter of 2010, over the same quarter of 2009.
