Turkish foreign trade minister said on Sunday that Turkey aimed to rise its trade volume with Syria to 5 billion U.S. dollars by 2012.

State Minister for foreign trade Zafer Caglayan, who paid a visit to Syria, told reporters that the Turkish-Syrian relations have been making progress.

250 Turkish businesspeople have nearly 700 million U.S. dollars of investment in Syria, he said.

Caglayan said Turkish businessmen should boost their investments in Syria which had several opportunities and Turkish companies were eager to invest in hotels, shopping malls and factories there.

Caglayan had a meeting with Syrian Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Abdallah al-Dardari and Economy & Trade Minister Lamia Asi in Damascus on Saturday.

Following the meeting, Dardari said a Turkish-Syrian bank would be established in Syria by the end of 2010.
