Turkey, Azerbaijan agree on natural gas price

Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said Turkey reached an agreement in principle with Azerbaijan over the cost of natural gas price it purchased from this country.

Yildiz told reporters on his way out of a conference on Energy in Ankara that they met with the Azerbaijani side in Ankara Yesterday, and the prolonged negotiations on natural gas prices resulted in an agreement.

He said they reached an agreement over the price and amount of natural gas Turkey purchased from Azerbaijan under Shah sea project.

Yildiz said also Turkey's Pipeline Corporation BOTAS reached an agreement with Azerbaijan's SOCAR regarding terms of transit of natural gas to other countries through Turkey.

He said a protocol would be signed next month between Turkey and Azerbaijan with the attendance of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Yildiz said both sides took some steps for compromise, adding that these should not be viewed as concessions.

He said the understanding approach of Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Aliyev contributed to the result.
