Turkey, Egypt hope trade volume to exceed $5 bln

Turkish State Minister for foreign trade Zafer Caglayan met with Egyptian Minister of Foreign Trade & Industry Rachid Mohamed Rachid on Tuesday.

"We have agreed that the trade volume between Turkey and Egypt could exceed $5 billion shortly, for instance, in the coming year," Caglayan told reporters following the meeting.

Currently, the trade volume is around $3.3 billion, Caglayan said.

In 2005, Turkey and Egypt signed a free trade deal covering only merchandise trade, Caglayan recalled and said "officials of the two countries launched efforts today to expand the agreement to other sectors."

On his part, Rachid confirmed the $5-billion goal for trade volume and said Turkish and Egyptian officials would get together periodically to achieve this goal.
