The Turkish agriculture minister said on Wednesday that Turkey expected 4 percent agricultural growth in 2011.

Turkey's Agriculture & Rural Affairs Minister Mehmet Mehdi Eker said Turkey expected 4 percent agricultural growth in 2011 if natural conditions also prevailed.

The Agriculture & Rural Affairs Ministry made public the 2010-2014 strategic plan for agricultural industry.

"This is the first plan of its kind in agriculture," Eker told the meeting during which the plan was promoted.

Eker said the main target in agricultural industry was supply and food safety, and his ministry attached utmost importance to rural development.

The minister said Turkey had increased agricultural incentives by three-folds and animal breeding incentives by 15-folds.

Turkey exported agricultural products worth 11.5 billion USD in 2009, Eker also said.

The strategic plan had five main themes including agricultural production and supply safety; food safety; vegetable and animal health; rural development; and institutional capacity.
