Turkey expects Arab tourist flow before Ramadan

Turkish tourism officials expect a significant flow of Arab tourists to Turkey in July, prior to the Islamic month of Ramadan to start in August.

Hotel bookings by Arab tourists, who desire to go on a vacation prior to the holy month of Ramadan, increased by 15 percent in summer period and by 30 percent in July, said Mehmet Akkus from the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TURSAB) in an interview with AA on Tuesday.

Noting that Arab tourists were of great importance for Turkey's South Marmara region and particularly for Bursa province, Akkus said his organization displayed efforts to activate such potential.

"We expect a record-breaking number of Arab tourists in 2010. A total of 565,000 tourists visited Bursa in 2009. We expect to host more than a million tourists this year," Akkus said.

Akkus noted that Iranian tourists had also been showing a greater interest in Turkey in recent years and demands from Iran had grown nearly 110 percent lately.
