Turkey eyes $500 bln from exports by 2023

Head of a national union of Turkish exporters on Wednesday expressed confidence that Turkey would reach $500 billion in revenues from exports by 2023, the anniversary of the foundation of the republic.

"I have no concerns that we will achieve our target of $500 billion in exports by the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey," Mehmet Buyukeksi, president of the Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM), told reporters in the southern province of Adana.

Buyukeksi said Turkey aimed to claim a 1.5 percent share of the world trade and become the 10th biggest economy of the world.

Buyukeksi said the Turkish government set a $107.5 billion exports target for 2010, however added that TIM eyed $115 billion turnover.

TIM said on Tuesday Turkish exports were up 24.89 percent year-on-year in May 2010 to 9.6 million USD.

However, 12-month exports were down 2.72 percent to 105.4 billion USD as of May, 2010.
