The Turkish agriculture minister has said that Turkey extended 780 million USD of aid to countries in need every year and 190 million of such figure was sent to "least developed countries".

Turkey's Agriculture & Rural Affairs Minister Mehdi Eker has recently participated in a conference organized by the UN Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (OHRLLS) in New York, USA, said a written statement from the Turkish agriculture ministry on Tuesday.

Speaking at the conference, Eker said the total amount of annual financial aid extended by Turkey to poor countries reached 780 million USD, adding that 190 million USD of such aid was allocated to least developed countries.

Eker said Turkey also trained experts and officials from least developed countries within the scope of an agricultural development program intended for Africa.

The minister noted that Turkey would continue to display efforts on the matter.

"The Fourth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC-IV)" will take place in Istanbul, Turkey, in May 2011, the ministry statement also said.

The conference is held every 10 years since then.

Least developed countries' problems related to agricultural development and food safety will be on the agenda of the fourth conference to be held in Istanbul next year.
