Turkey issues tender for consultancy service of THY

Turkey's Privatization Administration (OIB) announced a tender on receiving of consultancy service for privatization of national flag carrier Turkish Airlines (THY).

The deadline for prequalification is announced as January 7, 2011.

A notice posted on the website of OIB and newspapers said that the Administration was seeking consultants' advice to determine a privatisation strategy for the airline. The notice said national or international investment banks, financial organizations or consortiums which were experienced in public offering were invited to the tender.

In December 2004, 23% of the shares were offered to public and the Administration's shareholding structure reduced to 75,18 %.

In May 2006, 28,75% of the shares were offered to public and the Administration's shareholding structure reduced to 49,12 %.

Based in Istanbul, THY is one of the fastest growing and prosperous airlines in the world. It carries approximately 25 million passengers a year, with direct flights to 127 international and 37 domestic destinations.

The company was founded in 1933 with a fleet of five airplanes that carried a total of 28 passengers. THY made its first domestic flight in 1933 and the first international flight in 1947.

THY posted 389 million Euro of profit in 2009, becoming one of the top companies, behind Air China and Ryan Air, in the world that recorded the highest profit in 2009.
