Turkey lost 3.6 billion Turkish liras-TL (2.3 billion USD) from coal production in ten years.

Turkey's coal authority, TTK, had suffered from 2.3 billion USD of loss between 2000 and 2009.

"The authority is expected to suffer a loss of 429.9 million TL (279.1 million USD) in 2010," TTK executives said on Thursday.

Turkey's mining industry employed around 30,000-43,000 workers between 1940 and 1990. However this number declined to 11,500 in 2009.

The production in TTK's mine pits in Kozlu, Uzulmez, Amasra, Armutcuk and Karadon was down 170,795 tons to 1,708,834 tons year-on-year in 2010.
