Turkey posted 5 billion Turkish liras-TL (2.76 billion USD) of budget deficit in the first four months of 2012.

The Finance Ministry made public budget performance in the first four months of 2012, and said the budget deficit was up 63.6 percent year-on-year to 5 billion TL.

The budget deficit was 3.068 billion TL (1.69 billion USD) in the first four months of 2011.

The primary surplus rose 23.3 percent to 16.9 billion TL (9.34 billion USD) in the same period. The budget expenditures climbed to 111.5 billion TL (61.6 billion USD) from 95.3 billion TL (52.6 billion USD) with a 17 percent year-on-year rise.

Budget revenues were up 15.5 percent year-on-year to 106.5 billion TL (58.8 billion USD) in the first months of 2012. They were around 92.2 billion TL (50.9 billion USD) in the same period of 2011.

Tax revenues climbed to 84.4 billion TL (46.6 billion USD) with a 10 percent year-on-year rise.
