Turkey’s Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan has said Turkey ranked second in international construction sector.

Quoting a Top 250 list published by Engineering News Record, an international construction sector magazine, Caglayan said Turkey with its 55 firms, followed China that tops the list.

In a written statement on Thursday, the Turkish economy minister also said Turkish firms on the ENR list had a turnover of $16.8 billion in 2012. Congratulating Turkish construction firms for their success, Caglayan said that the sector had a strong backing of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The statement also said that Turkish construction firms have increased their incomes by 2.5%, from $15.9 billion in 2011 to $16.8 billion in 2012. It further said that Turkish firms' incomes went up by 9% in the Middle East, one of the most important markets for Turkey but due to political crises, project incomes dropped by 10.5% in North Africa.
