Turkey, Thailand should set up business forum: minister

Turkish State Minister for foreign trade Zafer Caglayan met with Foreign Minister Kasit Phirom of Thailand in Ankara on Thursday.

Caglayan said at the meeting, "Turkey and Thailand have many affinities and common points like their geo-strategic positions. Our talks concentrated on what we can do to increase our trade and investments mutually."

Referring to commercial relations between the two countries, Caglayan said, "Turkish exports to Thailand increased 161 percent to 206 million USD in the first ten months of 2010. Our trade volume reached 1.2 billion USD. Turkey exports iron and steel, grain-cereals and textiles to Thailand and imports textiles, motor vehicles, natural rubber and plastic products from this country."

He said that Turkey and Thailand should establish a business forum as soon as possible to boost their economic relations.

Foreign Minister Kasit Phirom of Thailand said that there was a great potential between the two countries, and expressed his belief that Turkey and Thailand would become two partner countries soon.
