Turkey to begin exporting grapefruits to Japan after long years

Turkish Fresh Vegetables and Fruits Exporters' Association (TYMSIB) sector board chairman Kemal Kacmaz said on Wednesday that they would begin exporting grapefruits to Japan after long years.

Kacmaz said Turkey's grapefruits exports to Japan would start on January 14, 2011.

Kacmaz said, "efforts which have been underway since 2003 to remove detrimental effects of Mediterranean fruit fly on grapefruits were successful. Officials of the two countries decided to resume exports of grapefruits after talks," he added.

"Our target is to offer Turkish fruits to Japanese market. We want to enter that market with quality products. We don't want to limit it only with grapefruits. We are eager to sell cherries and lemons. A Japanese delegation came to Turkey to see the products. Japan is a reference for Far Eastern countries," Kacmaz said.
