During his speech at the "Atlas for Biomass Energy Potential" publicity meeting in Ankara, Yildiz said biomass energy represents 17 percent out of the world's renewable energy sources.
He also emphasized that major powers like the U.S. and China are showing great interest in biomass energy.
"Because of the renewable energy plants constructed in Turkey in the past 10 years, Turkey is saving $5.5 billion for every year in natural gas imports," Yildiz added.
Turkey currently has an installed capacity of 237-megawatt electricity for biomass energy. Plants like corn, wheat, grass and animal waste and industrial waste are the main types of resources for biomass energy.
The Atlas for Biomass Energy Potential website for industry experts exhibits the biomass energy potential for each city in Turkey.
