The capacity utilisation rate in Turkish manufacturing industry has been 73.4% in May.

Turkey's statistics authority-Turkstat made public on Monday the results of the "Economic Tendency Survey" conducted among 1,594 enterprises operating in the manufacturing sector.

The largest rise was recorded in the wood industry with 84.5% while the smallest rise was recorded in the office furniture and computer production with 63.5%.

The survey revealed that the optimistic trend about the course of the economy increased in May.

The survey revealed that the capacity utilization rate rose 9.2% year-on-year and 1.2% month-on-month in May.

The survey aims to find out the extent to which enterprises actually use their installed productive capacity.

It refers to the relationship between actual output that 'is' produced with the installed equipment and the potential output which 'could' be produced with it, if capacity was fully used.

Economists and financial analysts closely monitor capacity utilization rate as a strong indicator for demand and inflation.

The capacity utilization rates, calculated for the overall manufacturing industry and the sub-sectors, are the weighted averages of the actually realized capacity utilization rates of the respondent local units as per their physical capacities.
