Turkey's electricity consumption increased 7.5 percent in June, 2010 when compared to June, 2009.

Electricity generation also increased 8.3 percent in the same period, stated Turkish Electricity Transmission Company (TEIAS) on Tuesday.

Electricity consumption, which had been 15.8 billion kilowatt/hours in June 2009, increased to 17.09 billion kWh in June, 2010.

Total consumption in the first half of 2010 reached 100 billion kWh with a 6.6 percent increase when compared to the same period of 2009.

Turkey, within the scope of several agreements, bought 273.3 million kWh of electricity from Iran, 81.9 million kWh of electricity from Georgia, and 87.2 million kWh of electricity from Azerbaijan in the first half of 2010.
