Turkey's energy minister meets Japanese executives

Turkey's energy and natural resources minister met Japanese executives in Tokyo, Japan on Friday.

Taner Yildiz had talks with Japan Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshito Sengoku, Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Akihiro Ohata, and Vice Minister of Finance Mitsuru Sakurai.

Before the meeting, Turkey and Japan signed a memorandum of understanding on a nuclear power plant to be constructed in Turkey's northern province of Sinop.

Yildiz and Sakurai exchanged views on possible financial dimensions of the planned nuclear power plant, whereas the Turkish minister debated ways to speed up signature of the agreement and use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes with Foreign Minister Maehera.

Turkey's energy minister also told Japanese executives Turkey's demand to conclude the nuclear power plant process within three months, and Japanese executives had accepted that demand.

Yildiz will visit Kashiwasaki-Kariva nuclear energy power plant on Saturday.

Turkey launched talks with Japan to construct a nuclear power plant in Turkey's northern province of Sinop earlier this month after negotiations with South Korea had failed.
