Turkey's exports of fresh fruits and vegetables exceeded 1 billion USD in the first half of the year.

Kemal Kacmaz, chairman of the Union of Turkish Exporters of Fresh Fruits and Vegetables, told the A.A on Monday that exports increased to 1.1 billion USD in the January-June period of 2010 from 948 million USD in the same period last year.

"Our exports reached 1.9 billion USD in 2009. We set our year-end target for 2010 as 2.2 billion USD. Despite some difficulties, our exports exceeded 1 billion USD in the first half of the year. These figures indicate that we will be able to reach our year-end target," he said.

"Exports of fresh vegetables amounted to 549.5 million USD. We exported 415.5 million USD of tomatoes. As for fruits, we exported 99.9 million USD of cherries. It was followed by strawberries, apples and apricots," he added.
