The new minimum wage, which will be in effect until the end of 2010, will come into force on Thursday, July 1.

According to a new regulation released by the Minimum Wage Commission, the minimum wage given to workers above 16 years of age, which was increased by 5.2 percent during the first half of the year, will rise by 4.3 percent in the second six months.

Accordingly, the minimum wage given to a single employee older than 16, which currently amounts to 729 TL gross (net 576.57 TL), will increase to 760.5 TL gross (net 599.12 TL) after the 4.3 percent rise. (1 USD equals 1.58 TL)

For those under the age of 16, there will be a 19.33 TL increase starting from July.

The minimum wage for the workers younger than 16, which is currently 621 TL gross (net 499.25 TL), will rise up to 648 TL gross (net 518.58 TL) as of July 1.

The new minimum wage will remain in effect until December 31, 2010.
