Turkey's SunExpress buys second Boeing passenger jet

SunExpress received its second Boeing 737-800 passenger jet and increased the number of planes it owns to 23.

In a written statement issued Tuesday, SunExpress said that the company had ordered six Boeing 737-800 passenger jets and to date had received two of the jets.

With the new passenger jet, SunExpress's seat capacity rose to 4,422.

SunExpress was founded in October 1989 as a subsidiary company of Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines. Today, SunExpress is the market leader for charter flights between Germany and Turkey. By launching scheduled flights as well in 2001, SunExpress became the first privately-owned airline to operate international services from Turkey. With flights from Antalya, Izmir and Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen, currently, SunExpress flies to more airports in Turkey than any other privately-owned carrier.
