Passenger numbers at Turkish airports climbed 20.1 percent to 102.7 million in 2010, state airports operator's statistics have shown.

Domestic passenger numbers rose 22.5 percent to 50.5 million and international passenger numbers increased 17.9 percent to 52.18 million in 2010 when compared with 2009, according to statistics unveiled on Thursday.

Plane traffic was also up 18.5 percent in domestic flights and 14 percent in international flights.

Parallel to rise in passenger traffic numbers, cargo traffic grew and a total of 2.02 million tons of cargo was carried through Turkish airports last year.

In domestic flights, Turkey's busiest airport was Istanbul's Ataturk Airport which hosted 11.8 million passengers. It was followed by Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen Airport with 7.4 million passengers and Ankara's Esenboga Airport with 6.4 million passengers.

In international flights, Ataturk Airport came first with 20.3 million passengers, Antalya Airport was the second with 18.3 million passengers and Sabiha Gokceh was the third with 3.7 million passengers.
