Turkish Airlines leases 3 Airbus A320-200 passenger jets

Turkey's national air carrier Turkish Airlines, or THY, have leased three Airbus A320-200 passenger jets from Kuwait Finance House (KFH) and Alafco Aerospace Leasing and Finance Company.

In a statement issued Thursday, the THY said that an agreement was signed with the KFH and Alafco on Tuesday, May 18 for the leasing of the three jets.

Each of the leased jets has a passenger capacity of 150 people.

The THY leased the three jets for a period of seven years.

Meanwhile, THY celebrates the 77th anniversary of its establishment on Thursday.

In a written statement issued Thursday, the THY said that celebrations began Thursday with a ceremony held in front of Taksim district's Republic Monument in Istanbul. THY officials placed a wreath at the monument.

The fact that THY was chosen as southern Europe's best airlines and the world's fourth best airlines shows that the THY is on its way to realing its goals, the THY also said.

THY flies to 120 international and 37 domestic destinations with its 159 planes.

THY is a member of Star Alliance.

The airline's main base is at Ataturk International Airport, with secondary hubs at Esenboga International Airport, Sabiha Gokcen International Airport, and Adnan Menderes Airport. In 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, THY carried 17 million, 19.7 million, 22.5 million and 25.1 million passengers with total revenues of US$2.23, US$3.0, US$4.5, and US$4 billion, respectively. The airline has more than 12,000 employees.

Turkish Airlines is an official sponsor of FC Barcelona, Manchester United and the Euroleague Final Four Paris 2010.
