Total vehicle production of Turkish automotive industry increased 26 percent to 1,095,000 in 2010.

Automobile production also rose 18 percent to 603,000 last year, according to figures of Automotive Industry Association.

Automotive industry sector exported a total of 754,000 vehicles, including 440,000 automobiles, in 2010. The vehicle exports in 2010 increased 20 percent when compared to 2009's figures.

Automotive industry export ranked the top in country's general export ranking in 2010.

In an earlier statement, Automotive Industry Exporters' Union (OIB) Chairman Orhan Sabuncu said that the sector became the leader of export with 17.3 billion USD in 2010.

Automotive sector has been the leader of Turkey's export for the last four years, said Sabuncu.

Noting that automotive sector made export to 170 countries in 2009, Sabuncu said that the number of countries increased to 180 in 2010, adding that their target was to reach an export figure of minimum 18 billion USD in 2011.
