In an interview with AA on Friday, chairman Sukru Ilisal of Authorized Automotive Dealers' Association (OYDER) said that the 10-year average of annual private and light commercial vehicle sales in Turkey amounted to 450,000 vehicles, adding such figure had exceeded 600,000 since 2005.

Ilisal said Turkey's average annual sale of automobiles and commercial vehicles was expected to reach 730,000 by the end of 2010.

"It will be the highest figure in the history of the republic. Automotive sector's sales will hit record levels by the end of the year," he noted.

Ilisal said discount campaigns launched by automotive firms towards the end of the year had raised sales by 30 percent on monthly basis, and monthly sales, which had been around 50,000 vehicles earlier, had risen up to 65,000-70,000 products in December.

The chairman also said that automobile and commercial vehicle sales in Turkey had increased by nearly 30 percent compared to last year.
