Turkish banks' profits rise 8.7 pct in 2010

Profits at Turkish banks increased 8.7 percent in 2010 year-on-year to 21.9 billion Turkish lira (13.8 billion USD).

The number of branches, both in domestic market and abroad, and employees also grew last year, according to a report revealed Monday by Turkey's Banking Regulatory and Supervision Agency.

Branch numbers increased 485 to 10,066 and the number of employees reached 191,180 from 184,205.

Total assets of Turkish banks exceeded 1 trillion TL at the end of 2010. Total assets rose 20.8 percent last year.
