A Turkish business group has said it had halted all operations in Libya after its field offices have been plundered as civil unrest continued to spread across the country.
Tekfen Holding said in a regulatory filing on Monday that Tekfen Construction Co. suspended its operations for an indefinite period of time in a $535 million irrigation project known as "The Great Man Made River," a network of pipes that supplies water to the Sahara Desert in Libya.
Tekfen said its field offices in Al-Kufra was raided and looted earlier today with no report of casualties.
It said 407 of its 1,197 workers in al-Kufra were Turkish nationals, adding efforts were underway to secure their evacuation back to Turkey.
