Turkish State Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan said on Sunday that recovery in employment was "faster" than expected according to latest data.

Responding to questions of reporters, Babacan underlined that there was a drop in unemployment rate although there has always been a rise between January and February in Turkey in general.

"Unemployment rate purified from seasonal impacts is 12.7 percent," Babacan said, adding that employment rise in industry was 293,000 people when figures of Feb. 2010 are compared with the figures of Feb. 2009.

Babacan said unemployment rate in general dropped 1.7 percent in February in 2010, "the latest Economic Coordination Board meeting was on employment. National Employment Strategy under the coordination of Labor and Social Security Ministry was assessed at the meeting."

Babacan said measures announced by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan last June yielded fruitful results.
