Turkish Energy Minister in Lebanon for meeting

Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz attended the electrical interconnection meeting in Beirut, Lebanon on Wednesday.

Delivering a speech in the meeting, Yildiz said Turkey was pleased to cooperate with the Middle East countries.

"The world is changing rapidly. There are several problems especially pollution in the world. We, as the officials of the energy sector, have to put forth our will on the matter. We must do what we can on the issue," Yildiz said.

1,200-km natural gas pipeline will be completed for gas interconnection in the region, he said.

Turkey could synchronously work with 34 non-EU member states in electricity production, Yildiz said.

"The system can synchronously work with 42 transmission-operating systems. Europe and Turkey reached that level. We can also do it with 8 countries. Turkey can provide technical infrastructure," he said.

Yildiz will also hold bilateral talks with ministers of several countries including Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Palestine and Syria during the meeting hosted by Lebanon.

He will return to Turkey today.
