Exports from East Anatolia Region of Turkey rose by 20 percent in 2009 when compared to 2008.
Cemal Sengel, chairman of executive board of East Anatolia Exporters' Association, told the AA that exports were 2.9 billion U.S. dollars in 2008 and became 3.2 billion U.S. dollars in 2009.
Sengel said they aimed to reach exports of 4 billion U.S. dollars in 2010.
Southeastern province of Gaziantep has become one of the most important provinces of Turkey with respect to exports as a result of a remarkable boost in trade between Turkey and its neighboring countries.
Exports from Gaziantep increased remarkably in the last decade. Exports which amounted to 435 million U.S. dollars in 2000 are expected to reach 4 billion U.S. dollars at the end of 2010.
The province makes exports to 160 countries including the United States, European and African countries.
