Turkish firm says claims search engine 'faster' than Google

The head of an Ankara-based software company has said they have developed an online search engine that works faster and more accurately than that of Google Inc., the world's leading player in the field.

“Epiri Professional 5.1 is an excellent program that displays the exact number of results for the kind of information you ask for without distinguishing the type of documents found in a way that you can archive and rearrange them or do another search within them,” said Murat Karaveli, general director of Horizon Software Co., in an interview with the Anatolia news agency talking about his company's search engine.

According to Karaveli, what distinguishes Epiri from all other search engines, including Google, is the “extraordinary” searching technology developed by Horizon.

“It conducts a fast search among thousands of sources as if it does that on 10 pages. There is no program other than Epiri Professional 5.1 that can import data from different kinds of databases. It also gives you the exact number of results unlike other search engines, like Google, which only give approximate numbers,” he said, underlining that the actual number of results Google can display for any kind of search is noticeably less than what it says it has found.

“Type ‘horizon' into Google, for example, and you will see it that claims it have found 106 million results, but it can only display 602 of them without similar pages and 818 of them with them,” he explained.

Karaveli also made strong assertions about the amount of data their program can store.

He told Anatolia that Epiri Professional 5.1 can archive 10 times more data than what is currently done by the Library of Congress in the US, the largest of its kind in the world.
