Turkish flour industrialists plan to focus on African market

The Turkish Flour Industrialists' Federation (TUSAF) chairman said on Wednesday that Turkish flour industrialists ranked the first in 2010 in terms of inflow of receipts.

Speaking to A.A correspondent, TUSAF Chairman Erhan Ozmen said, "Turkey exports flour of high quality so the prices are a little bit higher than the other countries. The amount of flour exported by Kazakhstan may be more but the inflow of receipts Turkey gets is higher."

Russia, the biggest wheat exporter of the world and the biggest wheat supplier of Turkey, last year said it halted exports of wheat till May 2011 because of drought. Ukraine and Kazakhstan also brought measures regarding wheat exports after Russia. Those measures had a negative impact both on Turkey and the international market. It increased export prices 30 percent.

"Despite all the problems, the exports will be more than 1.8 million tonnes this year. This is the targeted figure," Ozmen said adding that the demands from Sri Lanka, Indonesia, the Philippines and South Korea increased last year.

Ozmen said Turkish flour industrialists were planning to focus on African market this year, and underlined that, "this year Turkey targets to export around 2 million tonnes of flour".

"Turkey imports approximately 3 million tonnes of wheat annually and exports 2 million tonnes of flour," he said.
