Turkish Habur exports on Iraq border reach $5 bln

Turkish exports from the Habur border crossing with Iraq have reached 5 billion USD.

Vahdettin Ozkan, governor of the southeastern province of Sirnak, told a news conference Friday, "we spent 201.68 million Turkish liras (about 135 million USD) for 375 projects in the province.

"Exports from the Habur border crossing have reached 5 billion USD since the beginning of the year. Exports from Sirnak amounted for 5.16 percent of total exports from Turkey," he said.

Ozkan told reporters, "earlier, a fund of 22.1 million TL (about 15 million USD) was allocated for transportation projects in Sirnak. As a result of our initiatives, this amount was increased to 70 million TL (nearly 47 million USD). We have also launched several initiatives for construction of a railway line in the province. On the other hand, an airport will be opened in Sirnak by the end of 2011."
