Turkish minister says continues support for entrepreneurships

Turkey's Industry & Trade Minister Nihat Ergun said that more than 400 thousand new companies had been opened since 2003 while only 80 thousand companies had been closed down.

In response to a question by Kayhan Turkmenoglu, a deputy from the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party, about vocational training programs, Ergun said, "4.6 people out of every 100 people in Turkey open a company. This rate is 11.7 in the USA and 15 in South Korea.

"The Ministry of Industry and Trade extends support to entrepreneurship. 30 thousand companies were established in 2002. In 2009, number of newly established companies increased to 44 thousand. More than 400 thousand companies have been opened since 2003 while only 80 thousand companies have been closed down," he said.

Ergun said that only 6 thousand people received vocational training in the last decade, adding that 12 thousand attended training programs in 2010.
