Turkish PM: Govt puts measures against crisis, not IMF

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that not the International Monetary Fund (IMF), but the government determined measures to weather economic crisis.

Delivering a speech at a meeting of his party Justice and Development (AK) Party in Ankara, Erdogan said that unemployment rate which was 14.9 percent in April 2009 dropped 12 percent in the same month of 2010 and the figure would decrease more in the following period.

"We have weathered one of the biggest economic crises of the century and we are weathering it. We put forth measures to overcome crisis, not IMF," he said.

"We made accurate predictions and reached them. Those who made fun of us and who made fun of our measures felt ashamed now. We will keep working for our people," Erdogan said.
