Director General Huseyin Aydin of Halkbank, a Turkish state-run bank, said on Friday that the bank was planning to purchase a bank in the Balkans.

In an exclusive interview with the A.A. correspondent, Aydin gave information about operations and services of Halkbank inside and outside the country.

"We have been taking advantage of the opportunities. We consider the Balkans as an important geography and a strategic region. We attach high importance to the region," he said.

Aydin also said preparations were underway to move Halkbank from Ankara to Istanbul, "a building will be constructed in Atasehir district in Istanbul. Thus, all the bank staff will be in Istanbul," he said.

Aydin said 25 percent of Halkbank was actually open to public.
