US firm says to raise number of natural gas wells in Turkey

U.S. TransAtlantic Petroleum Company will increase number of its natural gas wells to 28 in Thrace region.

Executives of U.S. TransAtlantic Petroleum Company said the company drilled natural gas in Turkey's east and southeast and central Anatolia.

The officials said, "the company currently drills 200,000 cubic meters of natural gas from 8 wells per day. We ship the gas with a link made to BOTAS's line coming from Russia. The natural gas is brought into use in Istanbul and Thrace when necessary. The company concluded preparations for 15 new wells. We are planning to raise this number to 20. Thus, the company will have 28 wells in the region. The company aims to drill 600,000 cubic meters natural gas per day."

Officials of TransAtlantic Petroleum Company said Turkey currently used 37 billion cubic meters natural gas everyday and provided 4-5 percent of this quantity from local production.

"Thrace is a very important region for natural gas. Four companies, two of them local, drill natural gas in the region," the executives said.
