US Illinois state, Turkish trade undersecretariat sign deal

Illinois state in the U.S. and Turkish Foreign Trade Undersecretariat signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday.

Turkish State Minister Zafer Caglayan, who is currently on a visit to the U.S., said that Illinois state had an important place in U.S. economy, adding that the memorandum of understanding (MoU) would increase cooperation in economic relations.

Caglayan noted that the strategic cooperation between Turkey and the U.S. was turning into an economic cooperation.

He said that the MoU envisaged cooperation in commerce and investment and between small & medium scale enterprises.

It also includes innovation and fulfillment of technology transfer, added Caglayan who said that Turkey today was base of many leading U.S. companies, and it was the right address to reach Central Asia, Middle East, Caucasus, Balkans and North Africa.

Warren Ribley, Director of the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity, who signed the MoU, said that they considered Turkey as a strong partner which would increase U.S. exports to the Middle East.

Ribley noted that they would visit Turkey in September together with representatives of several companies from Illinois state.
