Sweden's Foreign Minister Carl Bildt strongly criticized Sunday EU's position recent incidents in Egypt which saw ouster of President Mohammad Morsi by the military on Wednesday after massive protests against his regime.

"African Union took stand of principle on events in Egypt. Suspended its membership. EU can’t be less concerned than AU with democracy," said Bildt on his twitter account.

He also wrote, "it would be catastrophic for the future if the West is seen as blocking democracy open for all in the Arab world. Would breed violence."

Warning EU against keeping silent on the military intervention in Egypt, Bildt said on his personal blog that they could not approve such a military intervention.

African Union suspended the membership of Egypt following the recent unrest in the country while EU avoided naming what was happening in Egypt as "a military coup".
