The British government advised Britons on Thursday against all but essential travel to Bangkok because of demonstrations in the Thai capital.
A series of grenade blasts killed at least three people in Bangkok's business district earlier on Thursday, Thai Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said, heightening tensions during a showdown between troops and anti-government protesters.
"This advice reflects our concern for the safety of British nationals planning to travel to Bangkok, given the risk that violence could break out without warning during the increasingly volatile political crisis," the Foreign Office said on its website.
It said the advice did not apply to passengers transiting Bangkok airport on their way to other destinations in Thailand or internationally.
