Britain's Conservative Party said on Monday it had made a final offer to the Liberal Democrats, a referendum on the alternative vote electoral system, as part of talks between the parties on forming a new government.
"We have agreed that we are going to offer the Liberal Democrats, as a final offer, a referendum on the alternative vote system," the party's negotiator George Osborne said.
"It would be completely undemocratic to introduce a change to the voting system without a referendum."
"In good faith, we are making an offer to the Liberal Democrats on a strong, stable government with a considerable parliamentary majority, in coalition, and a referendum on the alternative voting system," Conservative party negotiator George Osborne told reporters.
