A by-election will be held during the local elections on June 27 for the vacant seat after election of former Prime minister Eroglu as the third president of the TRNC on April 18.

Eroglu starts talks with parties for new Turkish Cyprus govt

President Dervis Eroglu of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has begun holding talks with leaders of the political parties at the parliament before designating one of them to form the new government.

President Eroglu received Freedom and Reform Party (ORP) leader Turgay Avci and Communal Democracy Party (TDP) leader Mehmet Cakici on Monday.

He is set to meet with delegations of the Democratic Party (DP), the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) and the National Unity Party (UBP) later in the day.

President Eroglu is expected to designate Irsen Kucuk, who was elected the new leader of the UBP on Sunday, to form the new government.

The recent distribution of seats at the TRNC parliament is as follows:

Total......50

Meanwhile, a by-election will be held during the local elections on June 27 for the vacant seat after election of former Prime minister Eroglu as the third president of the TRNC on April 18.

UBP won the general elections in TRNC in April 2009 by getting 43.97 of the votes.
