EU Commissioner: Grexit 'terrible failure' for all

World Bulletin / News Desk

"A Grexit is to be avoided at all costs; it would be a terrible failure for Greece, the EU, and Europe," European Economic Affairs Commissioner Pierre Moscovici said ahead of a eurogroup meeting with the Greek government on Tuesday.

Moscovici said that Greece’s new finance minister, Euclid Tsakalotos, was to present new proposals at the meeting and that these were awaited with anticipation: "There are solutions, but the first step must come from Greece," Moscovici said.

Eurogroup head Jeroen Dijsselbloem is to meet with Tsakalotos ahead of the plenary meeting Tuesday afternoon to discuss further steps after bailout deal proposed by creditors was rejected on Sunday by popular referendum.
