EU, Russia call for probe, condemn Israeli attack

Russia and the European Union on Tuesday jointly called for an impartial probe into the deadly Israeli attack on an aid flotilla and urged the opening of crossings into Gaza.

In separate statements on Monday, both had condemned Israel's use of violence and criticized the blockade on Gaza.

In a joint declaration during a Russia-EU summit in the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton demanded a "full and impartial inquiry" into the incident.

"The EU and Russia call for immediate opening of crossings for the flow of humanitarian aid, commercial goods and people to and from Gaza," said the declaration, which also regretted the loss of life in the incident.

The declaration was a show of solidarity between Russia and the European Union -- both of which are members, along with the United States and United Nations, of the international "quartet" seeking Middle East peace.

Condemning Israel for killing people carrying aid to Gaza is just not good enough. Many condemnations have been made against this dirty nation for all the crimes that it has committed against muslims. But such condemnations have had no effect. And many investigation teams have been sent to Israel and Palestine to find out the truth and bring Israel to justice. But nothing good has resulted from these investigations so far.Israel's continued to be an adamant liar and has not changed its character. So now the EU and Russia must act decisively by using other stronger and more purposeful means. The muslim nations also must unite and give a stern warning to Israel and walk that warning.
