The UEFA European Championship (EURO 2016) has increased Turkish exports of the processed snails, frogs and send-smelt to France by 35 percent.

"Turkey has exported 3 tons of snails along with frogs, lake sand-smelt and sea cucumbers," said Kocaman Fishing Inc. Chairman Osman Kocaman, referring to the fact that France is a significant importer of some seafood not commonly eaten in Turkey.

"There is a significant increase in the export of processed snails, frogs and sand-smelt to France, which is hosting Euro 2016. In France, this seafood is consumed as hot snacks and appetizers," said Kocaman.

"Especially the sand-smelt is commonly fried to be consumed like chips in England, France, Italy, and Spain. The Euro 2016 matches increased the consumption of snacks and appetizers," Kocaman added.

"Turkish frogs are one of the most irreplaceable foods of French cuisine whose consumption has also increased since the beginning of the championship," he added.
