The European Union's foreign affairs chief, Catherine Ashton, will fly to Egypt for talks on Feb. 22, her spokesman said on Wednesday, becoming the most senior foreign diplomat to visit since Hosni Mubarak's resignation.
"She will be in Cairo for talks next Tuesday," her spokesman said, saying talks would take place with a variety of officials.
Ashton is currently on a tour of the Middle East and North Africa. She has visited Tunisia, Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories and is expected to travel to Jordan and Lebanon.
