Finland's aviation authority said on Thursday the country's main airport Helsinki-Vantaa in southern Finland was open until further notice.
"The airport has been opened for now," airport manager Finavia spokeswoman Irmeli Paavola told Reuters.
Paavola said it was likely that more airports might be opened but could not immediately confirm whether the whole of the country's airspace was opened. Eight other airports have been opened.
Eurocontrol in Brussels said in a statement on Thursday almost all European airspace was open, with a few exceptions in parts of southern Finland, southern Norway, northern Scotland, and western Sweden."
